CPRA Garden

Mumbai has been built largely on reclaimed land, and at the CPRA (Cuffe Parade Residents Association) Garden in Cuffe Parade, land reclamation work is still being done. Using tetrapods, the park is being pushed further out into the water. The new walkway on the right is the land that has been reclaimed.

Family Photos

One of the perks of going to a place with a high concentration of family members is the inevitable treasure trove of old photographs. The photo above is my grandparents in the Prabhat Apartment building, 4th floor, circa late 1960's.

Ambassador Hotel

There are some really cool photographs of the Ambassador Hotel (at Churchgate in South Mumbai) at this site. I took some photographs to contrast with the old ones (I'm not sure how old these are, I assume from the cars it's around the 1930's) and the changes in the architecture are pretty sad.

Marine Drive: Past and Present

I realize I'm placing undue emphasis on Marine Drive, but I found this interesting historic image of Bombay in 1930, as cars were becoming a more prominent feature of the city.

Chowpatty Beach

Chowpatty Beach, at Marine Drive. My memories of this space as a child revolve entirely around men and women attempting to sell me balloons. No such attempts were made this time, regretfully. Business would have been good; adult me has a significantly increased spending ability, but has maintained a remarkably static interest in balloons.
