Colaba/Cuffe Parade Reclamation

"I remember playing on the reclaimed stretch of  rocks across from Baug [the building on the right] when I used to go over to my best friend Kamal's house when we were in school. Kamal lived in a similar looking house a couple of blocks behind Baug. They were still reclaiming the land then in Cuffe Parade. We did not take much pictures then and yet the memories never fade.....and are more clear than some of the digital pictures taken in these times." - Shaida Khan

A little more on land reclamation in South Mumbai; the image above is just east of the park I posted about earlier. This is Captain Prakash Pethe Road, which once bordered the water to the west. Above is a current image of the street, post reclamation. The Cuffe Parade reclamation scheme was extremely financially successful for the city, though it paved the way (no pun intended) for later failed attempts. Many of these buildings were demolished in the 70's and 80's. Interestingly, my family lived on the second floor of the building on the right in the 90's.

The later attempt at reclaiming more land is visible to the west of the street.
